It features an inflatable Aqua Park, floating obstacle course and more

If there's ever been a summer to live close to a waterpark it's this one and there's an attraction near Manchester that's been pulling in the crowds during the hot weather.

Wild Shore Delamere is in Cheshire and is home to a number of activities on the vast lake, including an inflatable Aqua Park, and an Aqua Chimp floating obstacle course.

The Aqua Chimp features everything from zip wires and rope swings to climbing walls and rope bridges, with different coloured runs to match varying abilities.

If you fall - with some of the challenges it's inevitable and all part of the fun - you simply land in the water, but there are ladders to help you get back on.

My son and his mates had great fun tackling the course on what turned out to be a very warm Sunday afternoon.

You can go on the course from the age of eight and minimum height 1.2m, so at age 15, while it was still a challenge, they found it easier than the younger ones to make their way around it and arguably got more out of it now they're stronger to hold on for longer.

They still had plenty of energy to bounce their way round the Aqua Park too. This one's a giant inflatable course on the water with Ninja Warrior-style features including Tire Run, Ninja-Jump and Eagles Nest along with an epic 3.8m inflatable tower, Mount Rainier.

You get a 50-minute session on the park, so they had plenty of time to make their way around it - jumping off, falling off and climbing up the tower to either jump off the top or slide back down.

There's usually a wide range of kids and adults taking part in each session and children from the age of six and a minimum height of 1.1m can go on it as long as they can swim 25 metres. Under eights need to have an adult on it with them at a ratio of one adult to three kids.

Other activities at the site include Ringo sessions, where groups of up to three can climb aboard a circular inflatable which is attached to a cable pulling them up and down the lake. The instructor makes it even more fun by shouting out challenges such as 'balance on one knee' as they're moving along.

Paddle boarding is also available, as is wakeboarding and new sessions designed to welcome first-timers and develop regular riders. And a new lakeside sauna has also recently opened, allowing guests to warm up after plunging into the cold water.

The sauna offers timed sessions so it doesn’t get too crowded and can be used as a way to warm up and recover between activities, or as a standalone wellness experience.

Of course all those activities are enough to work up an appetite, so it's no surprise that the on-site Wild Shack Cafe is well used by both swimmers and the many parents and visitors who choose to sit outside it and keep a close eye over the water while enjoying a brew.

The menu features the likes of pizzas (from £9), burgers, paninis and hot dogs (from £6), as well as milkshakes, waffles and ice cream. Hot drinks cost from £3.25.

There's a 'kids party package' costing £8 a head and families can also book the Wild Hut, which seats up to 12, or make use of one of the other sheltered picnic tables around the site.

It's not the only Wild Shore accessible from Manchester either. There's another site - Wild Shore Blackpool - which is near Preston and based at the former Blackpool Wake Park. It's also home to an Aqua Park, with paddle boarding and wakeboarding among the other activities available.

Tickets for the Delamere Aqua Park cost £24.50 this summer, while the Aqua Chimp is £22 and Ringo £30.50 for a group of up to nine people. Wild Shore Blackpool's Aqua Park is £22.50, while Ringo is £28.50 for the group.

Wetsuit hire and life jackets are included in the ticket prices, but you can just wear swimwear with a life jacket if you'd rather. Aqua Park is bare foot but for Aqua Chimp you need water shoes or old trainers.
