It's arrived in time for the school holidays

Imagine That! has been attracting families in Liverpool for almost 20 years and now a second site has opened its doors in Greater Manchester.

Boasting 40 attractions spread across three floors, the venue has opened inside Wigan's Grand Arcade Shopping Centre and is already pulling in the crowds.

Spread across 30,000 square feet of space over three floors, it promises the 'ultimate day out' with activity stations that mix science with play 'to really inspire and engage young minds'.

Areas include The Big City, The Village and the Entertainment Pavilion, each one offering something different, with plenty of opportunities for role play.

The Big City level offers young ones the chance to live life in a busy environment, taking on many services including Downtown Dispatch emergency services hub, City Live 24 News, Spin City Launderette and City Eats fast food delivery.

The Village level enables curious minds to step into more fun, with the Sunshine Patisserie, Village Supermarket, a giant construction site and even an Ice Cream Van to run and explore.

The Entertainment Pavilion boasts even more adventures, with a Slime Factory, bath bomb making workshops, a gym to explore and even a bank vault on offer.

Taking over the town's former M&S store, the site has been chosen because it's central and easy for visitors to get to, thanks to parking facilities and bus and train links just five minutes away.

Other facilities also include two cafes for kids and parents to refuel during their visit.

Managing director Abby Wallace said: “We can’t wait for families to experience the next generation of Imagine That! First created by my parents with my sister and me in mind, it’s been great to see all of our hard work come to life, with a bigger site to explore.

"We have something for the whole family to enjoy, including bath bomb-making workshops, a huge Slime Factory, the chance to reminisce and play games such as Operation, and much, much more.

“Our sessions last three hours, with three floors to enjoy. Each activity station has been expertly designed and crafted to inspire children through the art of science and imagination. We really do have something for everybody at Imagine That! Wigan, and our team can’t wait for visitors to experience our world for the very first time.”

Open every day in the summer holidays, the family attraction offers three-hour session blocks which can be booked online through the website. Tickets cost £24.95 for children and £9.95 for adults. For under threes it's £18.95.

The site is the second Imagine That! venue to open in the North West following on from the success of the first site in Liverpool’s Wavertree Technology Park. Imagine That! Liverpool, opened in 2017 after previously operating as Underwater Street at the world famous Pier Head in Liverpool for 10 years prior.

The opening comes as another play centre has also been announced at Grand Arcade, with FunParx taking over part of the old Debenhams store with an all-age indoor adventure park featuring inflatable assault courses, Ninja challenge zones, arcade gaming zones and more.

We reported earlier this month how two floors of the former Debenhams store will be transformed into Wigan’s new leisure development STACK, opening later this year.

Along with the six food outlets, STACK Wigan will have five bars, an outdoor terrace, big screens which will also show major sporting events, a stage which will be used for a full programme of live entertainment, a dedicated pool table area and a coffee shop.

Mike Matthews, centre manager at Grand Arcade, said: “We're really pleased to be bringing this exciting new leisure destination to Grand Arcade.

"Together, STACK, FunParx and Imagine That! add a completely new dimension to the centre, complementing our existing retail offer and creating more reasons for people to spend time in the town centre throughout the day and into the evening.”

He said that with over 150,000 sq ft of new leisure space between them, these openings 'represent one of the most significant leisure investments seen at any UK shopping centre this year - and firmly place Grand Arcade at the heart of Wigan's ongoing town centre renaissance'.
