The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport(SAIDS) imposed the following sanctions for the period of May and June 2026.
Liam Santos
Rugby | Three (3) year sanction
Following an In-Competition test conducted on Liam Santos (the “Athlete”) on 20 February 2026, the Athlete tested positive for the presence of Drostanolone Metabolite, 2a-methyl-5a-androstan-3a-ol-17-one and the Dehydrochloromethyl Testosterone Metabolite, 4a-chloro-18-nor-17b-hydroxymethyl, 17a-methyl-5a-androst-13-en-3a-ol) in his urine Sample.
In terms of the World Anti-Doping Code (“WADC”) Prohibited List 2026, Drostanolone and Dehydrochloromethyl-Testosterone are classified under Category S1 (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids), which is prohibited at all times (In- and Out-Of-Competition).
The Athlete accepted the sanction of four (4) years, which was subsequently reduced to three (3) years based on his early admission of the anti-doping rule violation under Article 10.8.1 of the SAIDS Rules. The Athlete’s period of Ineligibility began on 24 April 2026 (the date he was notified of his mandatory Provisional Suspension) and will be effective up to and including 23 April 2029.
Jackson Ole Koisenge
Athletics | Three (3) year sanction
Following an In-Competition test conducted on Jackson Ole Koisenge (the “Athlete”) on 22 February 2026, the Athlete tested positive for the presence of 19-norandrosterone, as well as Prednisone and Prednisone) in his Sample. In terms of the World Anti-Doping Code (“WADC”) Prohibited List 2026, 19-norandrosterone are classified as Anabolic Androgenic Steroids under Category S1.1 prohibited at all times (In-and Out-of-Competition) and Prednisone and Prednisolone are listed as Glucocorticoids under Category S9, prohibited (In-Competition).
The Athlete accepted the sanction of 4 (four) years, which was subsequently reduced to three (3) years based on his early admission of the anti-doping rule violation under Article 10.8.1 of the SAIDS Rules. The Athlete’s period of Ineligibility began on 24 April 2026 (the date he was notified of his mandatory Provisional Suspension) and will be effective up to and including 23 April 2029.
Dan Howitz
Triathlon | Two (2) year sanction
SAIDS attempted an In-Competition test on Dan Howitz (the “Athlete”) on 28 February 2026. The Athlete refused and failed to submit to Sample Collection.
In terms of Article 2.3 of the ADR, “Evading, Refusing or Failing to Submit to Sample Collection by an Athlete,” without compelling justification after notification by a duly authorized Person, constitutes an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV). The Athlete was charged for a violation in terms of Article 2.3 of the ADR and accepted voluntary provisional suspension starting on 15 April 2026.
SAIDS imposed a Period of Ineligibility of 2 (two) years based on the fact that the Athlete was classified as a Recreational Athlete under Article 10.3.1 of the ADR, admitted the ADRV under Article 2.3 of the ADR and provided evidence in mitigation of his defence.
The Athlete’s period of Ineligibility began on 15 April 2026 (the date which he accepted a voluntary provisional suspension) and will be effective up to and including 14 April 2028.
Maahier Martin
Powerlifting | Three (3) year sanction
SAIDS attempted an Out-of-Competition test on Maahir Martin (the “Athlete”) on 26 March 2026. The Athlete refused and failed to submit to the Sample Collection.
In terms of Article 2.3 of the ADR, “Evading, Refusing or Failing to Submit to Sample Collection by an Athlete,” without compelling justification after notification by a duly authorized Person, constitutes an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV). The Athlete was charged for a violation in terms of Article 2.3 and was afforded an opportunity to bring his case before a hearing panel, but refused this offer.
The Athlete accepted the sanction of four (4) years, which was subsequently reduced to three (3) years based on his early admission of the anti-doping rule violation under Article 10.8.1 of the SAIDS Rules. The Athlete’s period of Ineligibility began on 19 May 2026 (the date SAIDS issued the written decision) and will be effective up to and including 18 May 2029.
