The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) is a national public entity with its headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa. In accordance with the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE), it seeks to appoint a suitably qualified professional to fill a vacancy on its Therapeutic Use Exemption Commission (TUE-C).

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should:

1. A physician with a minimum experience of ten (10) years in the care and treatment of athletes and a sound knowledge of clinical, sports and exercise medicine.
2. Have expertise in at least one of the following areas:
   • Haematology.
   • Exercise Physiology.
   • Sports Medicine.
   • Endocrinology.
   • Psychiatry.
3. Specific experience in the care and treatment of athletes with disabilities will be advantageous.

Key Functions

Individuals who possess the relevant experience and qualifications will be expected to render advisory services in the following areas:

1. To review and approve/deny TUE applications in line with the ISTUE, from national/international level South African athletes and countries and/or regions with whom SAIDS have agreements in place.
2. Attend TUE-C meetings at a minimum of once per year to review its terms of references and operational procedures.
3. Attend TUE-C training.
4. Attend and provide information and education sessions to national federations and/or athletes on TUE’s.
5. Provide training to the TUE-C’s of countries and/or regions with whom SAIDS have agreements in place.

Term of Office and Remuneration:

The members shall serve for a period of two (2) years and will be remunerated for their services as stipulated by the Terms of Reference.
